About This Book
The Beauty Queen's new tradeback edition was created "hands on" with computer print technology. The text of the original Morrow hardcover was run through a scanner using an OCR program, then cleaned up and completely redesigned on the Power PC of Barbara Brown Desktop Publishing, using Aldus PageMaker.
Font: Palatino was chosen because its stark, functional look seemed well-suited to carry the gritty realism of a story set in New York City.
Jacket art and halftone illustrations were created by Laguna Beach artist Jay Fraley, on a Macintosh 8500. He used the Photoshop program to manipulate his photograph.
This trade paperback was printed on Banta's Cameron-system belt press.
As paper costs rise, and forests disappear, I wish that paper manufacture would go into a new technology. It is time for all those clever geneticists to stop trying to engineer the 400-pound strawberry. They need to turn their attention to removing the dope gene from hemp, so this age-old paper plant may once again provide us with a paper source that is environmentally sane.
