last two.

If the sight of Hunter sitting on horseback, thighs spread wide and ass flexing whenever he directed his horse to change direction, wasn’t enough to make his cock wake up, the memories of their night in Gable’s hayloft were certainly enticing enough.

They’d slept for a little while, both of them exhausted, but Hunter had woken Grant up for round two a while before daybreak. This time they’d made love face to face, and it was even better than the first time, which had been a lot less smooth because of Hunter’s inexperience. They’d fallen asleep again, legs and arms entangled, and had been awakened by the horses growing restless from the burgeoning morning. Afraid of being caught by Flynn, in case he came in to feed the horses, they’d dressed quickly and had driven off to the crew house, where they said their good-byes amidst fears of being discovered, while still having a hard time keeping their hands off each other.

It was certainly going to be a challenge to keep their relationship a secret. Not that Grant was the type to shout it from the rooftops. Even though the feelings he had for Hunter were fairly new to him, he was anything but indiscreet, remembering all too well what it felt like to have to hide his taste for men. In fact, he had never been very forthcoming with personal matters. Most of his fellow wranglers still didn’t know about his sexual preferences, and he preferred to keep it that way. At least until Hunter was ready to tell his family. Which could be never.

Grant nudged his horse to walk alongside Belle. “Sore?” he asked casually.

Hunter gave him a sideways look, but he didn’t speak.

“It gets better after a while, you know, with practice,” Grant replied, still having a hard time not seeing the funny side of this.

“And how would you know?” Hunter asked gruffly.

Grant put his hand on Belle’s backside, which made the horse slow down. “Okay, it’s not exactly from personal experience, but Gable….” He didn’t finish when he saw a look on Hunter’s face that he thought was a “don’t go there” look, so he simply shut up.

“What about Gable?” Hunter asked when Grant didn’t continue.

“You probably don’t want to hear about him, so I’d better not say anything. I understand.” Grant felt uncomfortable all of a sudden. It wasn’t right to talk about his relationship with Gable, especially not with his new lover and a friend of Gable’s to boot.

Hunter stopped his horse and turned it around. “It’s okay. I’d like to talk about Gable, actually.”

    “You would?”

Hunter nodded his head determinedly. “It’s the one thing I can’t understand.” He sighed, which made Grant feel even less at ease. “Before you came here, I didn’t really know you. Then when I heard how you’d abandoned Gable after his accident, I really didn’t like you. In fact, I didn’t want Hugh to hire you, and if we’d had nearly enough wranglers, I would have fired you that first morning. But we were desperately short of workers, so Hugh persuaded me to keep you. I’m glad we did, because I got to know you,” Hunter said with an absent smile. Then he looked straight at Grant with those light brown eyes of his and Grant felt a different kind of rush. “I have a hard time marrying the Grant I heard about before I got to know you to the one I know now.”

“Who said anything about marriage?” Grant joked, because he really had no idea how to answer Hunter’s question.

“Grant,” Hunter said with a pleading tone.

Grant sighed and stopped trying to turn it into a joke. “I wasn’t the same man I am now,” was the best he could come up with.

Hunter directed Belle to come alongside Raven so he could face Grant. He put his hand on Grant’s thigh. “I can live with that. I hope you’ll tell me what changed you, though. You know, one day?”

Grant nodded. There was so much he still had to tell Hunter, but that would have to wait until they were a little more advanced in their relationship. Right now, everything was still new and exciting, but he knew from experience there was also a big chance they wouldn’t make it to anything long-term, so he preferred to keep his cards close to his chest.

Hunter turned Belle around and gently kicked her side to speed her up. They were still taking it quite leisurely, mostly because Hunter still winced with every sudden movement, but they both knew that despite their need to spend
