âIt was a good place, the first one I ever really thought of as home,â Alec said, sobering a little. âIf someone were to build a new place here, do you suppose theyâd haunt it?â
Seregil knew who âtheyâ were. âIf they did, it would be a sorry thing for them to find no one but strangers, donât you think?â
Alec was quiet a moment, then said, âWe could do with a bit more room than we had, the way you clutter things up. It might be hard to find someone trustworthy to run it, though. And to do the magicking, too, with Magyana and Thero gone.â
âIt could be managed.â Seregil smiled to himself in the darkness. âYou know, I never could stand playing the noble for long, and Iâve had my fill of it these past few months.â
âItâd be bad luck to use the same name. Weâd need a new one.â Alec leaned down and pulled something from beneath the beamâa long barred wing feather. âHow about the Owl?â
âThe Dragon and Owl.â
Yaâshel khi
, a voice whispered in Seregilâs heart. âAfter all, weâd want to attract the right sort of trade.â
