    Cat and her party travel towards the Eryie with Tyrion and are attacked on the road. Fighting ensues and Tyrion ends up saving Cat’s life. Upon arrival at the Eyrie, Cat’s sister, Lysa, is nursing her pre-adolescent son. Lysa expresses her anger with Cat for bringing Tyrion to her house and immediately imprisons him.
    During a council session, the king learns of Daenerys’ pregnancy and orders her and her brother’s deaths. He fears a Targaryen takeover despite the fact that the Dothraki have never crossed the Narrow Sea. Ned disagrees with this decision and ends up resigning his position as Hand. As Ned is in the midst of trying to make arrangements to leave King’s Landing, he gets word from Yoren of the Night’s Watch that Cat has taken Tyrion prisoner. He tries to act to protect his children, but is sidetracked by Petyr Baelish offering to take him to the last person Arryn visited before his death. Ned agrees and is taken to the brothel to meet Robert’s baby girl, who has black hair. As Ned leaves, he is surrounded by Jaime and his men who attack Ned because of Cat taking Tyrion. Ned’s men are killed and Ned ends up getting pierced in the back of the leg with a lance and passes out, leaving us fearful of what will happen to him and his daughters.
What We Learn
     Cersei insisted on her cousin, Lancell, serving as Robert’s squire.
     Jon Arryn had urged Robert’s marriage to Cersei in order to secure the support of her father’s money and power. Was this an honest suggestion on Arryn’s part, or part of the Lannister scheme?
     Nobody knows why Ser Hugh was knighted or from where he got his expensive new armor.
     Jon Arryn was most likely poisoned by someone close to him. His squire, the recently deceased Hugh of the Vale, is the most likely culprit. This would explain the knighthood, new armor, and untimely death.
     The deathly secret the twins have been conspiring about is that the father of Cersei’s children is actually Jaime, not Robert, meaning Joffrey does not have a rightful claim to the throne. It is also frustrating that we know the secret, but Ned refuses to assume this could be the truth and continues to investigate the matter.
     Varys and Illyrio exchange news and have formed an alliance.
     Renly, Robert’s youngest brother, is involved in a love affair with Ser Loras Tyrell, who convinces Renly that he should have the throne.
     More layers of Tyrion are discovered as he saves his captor’s life during an attack, making the mystery of his loyalties even harder to figure out.
     Cat’s sister, Lysa, has become paranoid and disturbed. Her actions and attitude are so distasteful that we can only hope her role remains limited as the story unfolds.
     Robert most likely has many bastard children in King’s Landing. Ned meets Robert’s most recent one, a baby girl belonging to one of Petyr’s prostitutes.
     Robert fears the Targaryen children gaining power and admits to there being no knight’s honor in ruling, only fear and blood.

    Robert Baratheon was a warrior in his younger days. He grew up with Ned and shared with him a fondness for Jon Arryn. In the days of King Aerys’ reign, Robert was engaged to marry Ned’s sister, Lyanna, before her death at the hands of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. Her death caused Robert to rebel against Mad King Aerys and usurp the throne. Robert was the first man since Aegon the Conqueror to win the throne by fight, not inherit it by birthright. Robert operates under his own moral code, but has grown lazy from enjoying the spoils of his victory during his unchallenged reign as king. Robert married Cersei Lannister as a traditional power move to secure the backing of her father’s money and power. The memory of his true love Lyanna, the duties involved in kingship, and his loveless marriage to Cersei have left Robert embittered with life. Because Robert is not a politician and unaccustomed to the game of the throne, he lets the ruling of the kingdom fall to his council and the Lannisters so that he can stay busy having fun and enjoying his status as King.
