    Stephen was shocked and incensed that they put a chip in his son. He also knew that they could now use that to keep him and his family in line.
    With Bea relegated to a mental facility, Milo was sent home to heal. One night he headed out to a survivor’s meeting at the school, where he was approached by Cody, who is in fact, a 30-something year old man named Don Bellows who lost his entire family one night. They just vanished without a trace while he slept. In fact, there are more than 15 people missing on the island in recent years, and several more who have killed themselves.
    He suspects something sinister is happening on Hamilton Island and wants Milo’s help in getting to the bottom of things.

ALEX HELLER
    Alex Heller is the 17-year-old son of Roger Heller, left to pick up the pieces after his father shot his classmates. Fortunately, his girlfriend, Katie, is there to help him through the difficult time.
    And tough time it is. Soon after the murders, one of the parents, Bruce Henderson, of the slain Teddy Henderson, showed up on Alex’s doorstep with a bat, ready to attack.
    A Paladin officer appeared out of the blue and stopped the attack. Bruce was then taken into custody as Alex’s mom, Liz came home, scared and angry.
    However, that wasn’t the end of violent acts on the family. On Alex’s return to school, he decided he couldn’t take the whispers and dirty looks, and wanted to leave early. He told Katie to meet him near the racquetball courts.
    While waiting, he was confronted by Jake Brewster and Ray Wilson, friends of another slain student, Eddie Tarroza. Jake and Ray had bullied Alex when he was younger. This time, however, they were out for blood.
    Jake then came at Alex with a knife. Somehow, he managed to wrangle free and slammed Jake’s head into one of the walls, where he fell into a lifeless slump.
    As Alex stared in horror, certain he’d killed Jake, Ray attacked him from behind and wound up on top of him, punching him repeatedly. And then Katie showed up, picked Ray up and threw him, quite impossibly, at least 10 feet, to Alex’s shock.
    They took off into the woods, scared and not sure what to do, with Alex now certain he was a murderer just like his father. There was no way he could ever have a normal life now.
    They took harbor in a cave during a storm, where Alex and Katie made love for the first time. They then fell asleep together. When Alex woke, he was in darkness, surrounded by whispers, and was unable to move. And Katie was gone.

LIZ HELLER
    Liz is the wife of Roger Heller and mother to Alex and her 6-month-old daughter, Aubrey. She is a former teacher, taking time off for maternity leave. But following the murders, she realized she has no future in Hamilton Island, let alone at the school where her husband killed students.
    Liz soon found herself waking up at 1:11 a.m., night after night, hearing weird noises on the baby monitor in Aubrey’s room. Eventually, she heard Roger’s voice, whispering to the child.
    She ran into Aubrey’s room to see her baby awake, saying “da-da.” But there was no sign of Roger actually having been there. Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that somehow, Roger is trying to contact her.
    Meanwhile, people in town are looking at her with suspicious stares. One night, while in Roger’s home office, she stumbled upon two things he’d hidden — a flash drive and a list. It was a list with the names of the students he’d shot. The only difference between the list and the actual dead was that Manny’s name wasn’t on the list, but Alex’s girlfriend, Katie’s, was.
    Since the authorities had taken away hers and Roger’s computers during the investigation following the shootings, she went to the public library to use their computers to see what was on the flash drive. On the way there, she had an overwhelming feeling like she was being watched, and was nervous as hell as what she’d find on the flash drive.
    Most of the files on the flash drive were encrypted, all save for one, which showed Roger walking through the caves, presumably on the north end of the island, eager to show the camera something. While Liz watched, she saw that a Paladin officer had come into the library and was headed toward her.
    Just as the officer was about to reach her, Liz saw what Roger had wanted to show the camera — several dead people in a pile.
