to.
"I should find Crane too," I told him.
"No, stay here, and I'll send him up here to you."
I nodded and crossed the room to sit on the bed. I was surprised when he walked over to me, bent, and kissed my nose.
"Don't leave the bedroom, baby."
"I am not your baby." I smiled up at him.
He smiled back, his eyes lingering on my face, before he turned and left the room.
Alone, I started to worry again. By the time there was a knock on the door, I almost shattered into a million pieces 148

from the sound. When Crane slipped into the room, I could breathe again.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
His eyes were huge as he stared at me.
"What?"
"Are you kidding?"
I squinted at him, unsure about what was wrong with him.
"Where should I start?"
I groaned loudly and leaned my head in my hands as he ranted at me. How dare I not tell him where I was? What the hell had I been thinking?
It was like an endless stream of sound, of yelling, and when he smacked my shoulder, I realized I had zoned out on him.
"Shit," I snapped at him, hitting him back. "Don't hit me."
"You're such an ass."
There was no argument there.
"When were you going to tell me about Logan Church?"
"Are you kidding?" I yelled at him, feeling like myself because I was looking at him. "You can't possibly think that any of this was planned."
"I dunno, was it?"
I just stared at him.
"Okay, fine, it wasn't," he said, taking a seat beside me on the bed, pulling off his sweater and then the T-shirt underneath.
"What're you doing?"
"That shirt is way too big for you," he said, passing me his T-shirt. "Wear this."

I discarded Logan's shirt and pulled on Crane's T-shirt. It was still warm from his body. "Thanks."
"So what? We're staying, right?"
"Right."
"So are we moving in here?"
"No... I dunno." I sighed.
"Well, we can't stay at our place because that guy Domin's skulking around. I'm thinkin' when he finds out that you're the big man's mate he'll really try screwing with you."
"Probably." I sighed again, laying back on the bed.
"So let's go get our shit and bring it back up here."
I rolled my head to the side, looking at him. "You're gonna stay here with me?"
"If your semel will allow it." He grinned at me.
"Shut up."
"You don't get it," he chuckled. "You're a mated reah now.
You are the mate of a semel with a whole tribe behind you.
That scary sheseru Logan's got, Yuri whatever his name is, he told me when I was on my way up here not to stay too long because Logan wants you to rest."
"What time is it, anyway?" I yawned, lifting my arm to look at my watch.
Crane took hold of my wrist to check the time himself. "It's a little after five."
"Then why am I tired?" I yawned.
"Oh, I dunno." He smirked at me. "God, you're an idiot."
I didn't even have the energy to yell at him. I just wanted to go to sleep beside Logan. I wanted him to wrap me up in his arms and hold me tight.

"Hello, can we focus? Do you want me to go get our shit or not?"
"Yes."
"Okay. I think Delphine has a car, lemme see if I can borrow it, and I'll go get our stuff and come back. It's just our two backpacks."
"Those are huge hiking packs, idiot," I said, dragging myself to my feet, looking around the warm, very masculine bedroom for my parka.
"There." He pointed.
Once I zipped myself up, I looked at him and realized he wasn't moving. "Are we going?"
"Are you sure you should?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't you have to ask first?"
"Have you lost your mind?"
His smile was huge. "Sorry. I forgot who I was talking to."

Chapter Nine
I drove home on autopilot and parked behind our building in the dark alley. Crane wanted to just grab our bags and leave, but I needed to shower and change. I smelled like sex.
Walking toward the bathroom, I had to grab for the doorjamb as my legs went out from under me.
"What the hell?" Crane half-shouted as he ran to my side, grabbing me and hauling me up against him, anchoring me against his bigger, more heavily muscled frame.
"It's... just been a really long couple of days."
"Are you gonna be all right in the shower?"
"Of course. Don't be an idiot."
He looked skeptical, but he let me go in alone.
I stood under the hot water until it ran cold. The bite Logan had given me still hurt when I washed it, and it bled again, but it stopped by the
