for a minute.”
    Reluctantly, Gable complied.
“How well do you know Bill?” Flynn asked, hoping that talking would help Gable settle.

“I‟ve known him for ages,” Gable admitted. “He‟s always been the regular vet around here, but he‟s not the only vet. I have no doubt that the ranchers would understand if he took a few days off when his wife just had twins, Flynn.”
Flynn took Gable‟s hand in his and squeezed it. “I know you feel protective of Calley, but you can‟t make her decisions. She decided to stay with Bill, despite of all the things they‟ve been through together.
There must be a reason for that, because she‟s not the dependent-wife type, so all I can think of is that she loves him. Despite of all of his flaws, she still loves him. And I know all about that.” Gable looked Flynn in the eye as if he was gauging if Flynn was joking.
“You‟re far from perfect, Gable, but I still love you. Don‟t ask me why, but I do. Calley probably can‟t explain her feelings for her husband either, but I have no doubt they‟re much the same.” Gable‟s face softened and Flynn felt warmth flooding his body.
He did love this man and had stuck with him through the hard as well as the easy times, just like Calley had stuck by Bill. Flynn saw Gable look around and then pull him into a hug.
“You know I love you too, right?”
    Flynn smiled.
“Let‟s go see how Calley and the babies are doing.”
“Gabe, we can‟t just barge in there.”
“Sure we can. Aren‟t you just a little bit curious?” Flynn had to admit he was. He wanted to know what Gable‟s children looked like. “You know I am.”
Just at that moment a doctor walked through the doors and they didn‟t close immediately. They were slowly shutting when Gable got up and dragged Flynn along. “Let‟s go, then.” They slipped inside just before the doors closed completely.
Flynn was nervous about walking behind the sealed doors, but he was also amused to see this other side of his lover. They walked past the empty nurses‟ station and Gable pointed at the white board. “Calley Haines. Room 12.” He winked at Flynn.

It wasn‟t hard to find the room. Gable knocked and slowly opened the door. The room was shaded and Calley looked to be asleep, so Flynn pulled him back. “Don‟t wake her, Gabe.”
“I‟m awake.” Calley‟s voice sounded sleepy.
“Hey, girl. Everything okay?” Gable asked in a voice Flynn had only ever heard him use with Bridget.
Calley smiled. “Hi, guys. Did you see the babies?” Gable shook his head. “We wanted to see if Mom was okay first.” Calley‟s eyes filled with tears. “I still can‟t believe it. The midwife said they were both doing well, but since they were born early they wanted to observe them for a little while. Oh, and to give me a bit of rest, since I‟ll have my hands full soon enough.”
“We saw Bill on the way in,” Gable said. Flynn could tell he was trying very hard to keep his voice neutral.
“He had to go see a cow,” Calley replied flatly. “Don‟t know if that‟s a euphemism for „girlfriend‟ or an actual farm animal, but hey….” Then she seemed to recover. “I know his mind is on work, so I told him to go.”
To Flynn‟s surprise, Gable chuckled. “You know Bill.”
“Sadly, I do,” Calley said. Then she seemed to perk up. “Let me call the midwife and ask her to bring the babies. I want you to see them.” Flynn was happy to see that she addressed both of them, although he was sure she only really meant Gable. “There‟s two of you here if they both start crying,” she added matter-of-factly.
A few minutes later the midwife arrived with a bassinet containing two bundled-up infants, and Flynn could barely contain himself. He knew he had to be patient, though. He was last in line when it came to holding the children, and once he saw how tiny they were, he wasn‟t sure he wanted to anymore. The babies seemed quite content and warm, wearing a pink and a blue cap on their heads, respectively, the little girl sound asleep and the boy with open, searching eyes.
Gable looked into the bassinet and smiled, so Flynn moved behind him and wrapped his arms around Gable‟s waist so he could look over his lover‟s shoulder. “He‟s awake,” Flynn noticed.
