Love Means Courage
Len continued working Cliff’s hot shaft as he leaned close to his ear. “Let it go; give it all to me.” A long, ragged cry echoed through the clearing as Cliff did just that, coming over Len’s hand and onto his stomach. Then Len watched as his head rested back on the blanket, and his body relaxed. “That was beautiful. I loved the way your eyes locked onto mine when you came.” Cliff leaned forward, and Len brought their lips together, thrilled he could put that happy, sated look on Cliff’s face. While they kissed, he felt Cliff’s hands opening his pants before tentatively reaching his hand inside, and shortly after he felt the air and Cliff’s light touch on him, like he wasn’t sure.
“Just do what you like,” Len whispered. Slowly, Cliff’s hand began to move, sending electric shocks up and down Len’s spine. Len was already so keyed up, he knew he wasn’t going to last long, and he didn’t, throwing his head back as his climax slammed into him, taking his breath away. “Cliff!”
When his vision cleared, Len settled on the blanket, gulping air like a sprinter. They lay together, facing each other, hands entwined and lips pressed to each others. No words were used—
none were needed—as they basked in a heady afterglow. It was only the sound of the horses whickering that brought them back to the present. Cliff huffed softly. “We should get back.” But it was obvious his heart wasn’t in it. His heart was right here.
Len returned the slight sigh. “I know. I’ve got work to do, and I wouldn’t want my boss to think I was shirking my duties.” He smirked, and Cliff bopped him on the arm. “But I just want to stay here with you too.”
That led to another round of kissing and touching, which in turn led to some more rolling around on the blanket. Finally, Len sat up, his eyes and hands resting on Cliff’s body. “We really should get back. Damn it.” Slowly, he got to his feet, pants around his ankles, 134 Andrew Grey
shirt strewn somewhere. Cliff was in worse shape; his pants were hanging in some bushes. They both laughed at their exuberance and retrieved their clothing.
Cliff used a corner of the blanket to clean them up, and after getting dressed, they rolled up the blanket and untied the horses. Before mounting their rides, Len gave Cliff another kiss, and they headed back to the farm, riding back through the woods grinning from ear to ear. 135

“ACCORDING to The Andersons of Maumee, Ohio, corn was up ten cents a bushel, settling at two-forty on fears of a sustained drought in the plains and Midwest.” The announcer went on to give the rest of the farm commodity prices as Len drove to the farm. “The weather today should be partly cloudy with a chance of a pop-up thunderstorm.”
“You’ve said that for the last week, and nothing!” Len switched off the radio in disgust as he pulled into the drive in front of the barn and parked his car. Cliff came out of the house with Geoff right behind him.
“Son of a bitch, I wish it would rain. They keep calling for freaking thundershowers and nothing comes!” Cliff’s temper was definitely up, and while Len knew a few things he could do to turn the grumpy bear into a whimpering pile of JELL-O, they hadn’t had much of a chance lately. For the past few weeks, they’d gone riding together a few mornings a week and always to the clearing, which Len was beginning to think of as their clearing. But there hadn’t 136

been anyone to watch Geoff, so they hadn’t been able to enjoy a morning ride for the last week, and with the lack of rain, Cliff had been getting grumpier and snappier.
As Cliff approached, Len saw Geoff trip on something in the grass.
“Son of a bitch!” The high-pitched tone rang out, clear as a bell.
Len saw Cliff’s head snap around to glare at Geoff, and Len put his hand on Cliff’s arm as he used the over to cover his mouth to keep from laughing. Cliff yanked Geoff to his feet, looking like he was going to spank him. “Don’t, Cliff. He doesn’t know what he said. He just repeated what he heard you say not two seconds ago.” The glare he got would melt concrete. “If I had said that in front of my parents, they’d have washed my mouth out with soap.” Len raised his eyebrows. “Didn’t help with your potty mouth, did it?” Finally, Cliff smiled and set Geoff back on his feet. “What’s got you in such a foul
