trotting, and Joey watched as Eli gently corrected her form.
A sound behind him captured his attention, and he turned around. Looking through the barn, he saw Geoff’s truck as two figures walked toward him. “Geoff!” He called and waited for him to step from the darkness of the barn. As they did, Joey’s breath caught in his chest. “Robbie!” He found himself rooted on the spot and waited until Geoff brought him close. “I wasn’t expecting you for a few weeks.” Secretly, he was afraid Robbie would change his mind, and he’d refused to allow himself to believe he was coming.
Now Robbie stood in front of him, so close he could feel his breath, and then he was in his arms, kissing him.
“Oooh, kissing.” A small voice behind them called and the other kids all made similar noises, like they’d been caught doing 184 Love Means … NO Boundaries
something naughty. He backed off with the kissing as both of them began to laugh.
“I caught a flight early this morning and called Geoff. He told me you were delayed, something about the weather.”
“If I’d known, I’d have waited for you.” Joey looked over at Eli who beamed back at him. Of course the little bugger had known and hadn’t told him. “After you left Mama and I had a long talk. I think Dad talked to her first, though.”
“I hope it was better than the shouting match I heard just before I left.” When Robbie first told his mother he was going to be leaving with Joey, she made some sounds he hadn’t thought were humanly possible.
“She calmed down. She still tried to talk me out of going, but—” Robbie’s voice was momentarily drowned out by a chorus of laughter and applause as Eli wrapped up the class. “I told her I was a man now and needed to make my own decisions.” Joey couldn’t help smiling, “What did she say?”
“Nothing.”
“Then what convinced her?”
“I told her what you said to me about boundaries and that it was time I expanded mine. I think for the first time she might have realized that maybe by sheltering me, she wasn’t helping me.” Robbie rested his head on Joey’s shoulder. “But don’t be surprised if we get a call that she’s coming to visit soon.” Robbie tried to keep himself from laughing, but failed. “I told her that would be okay and asked her if she knew how to ride.”
Joey picked up on Robbie’s mirth. “I can just see your mother in full makeup, perfect hair, flying across a field on a horse.” 185 Andrew Grey
Robbie’s laughter increased. “That’s the best part. His voice got all haughty and she said”—Robbie mimicked her perfectly— “‘Of course I can ride. My granddaddy was in the cavalry’.” They both broke into peals of laughter.
“How about you?” Joey asked as his laughter abated.
“How about me, what?”
“You feel up to a ride?” Robbie’s scent filled his nose, drowning out everything else.
“Oh yeah, I could use a good ride.” Robbie kept his face serious, and Joey did a double take before leading them toward the barn. Robbie waited while Joey saddled Twilight. Then he got Robbie mounted, joining him in the saddle before hands held him by the waist. When they were ready, a click of his teeth started Twilight forward.
They rode across the field, and Joey felt Robbie’s hands begin to wander, first over his chest and then sliding beneath his shirt, gliding over his skin. “Could you stop a minute?” Wondering what Robbie had in mind, he stopped and felt Robbie fidget behind him.
His shirt was lifted and after some fumbling, pulled off him. Then he felt Robbie’s skin press to his back with a soft sigh breathed into his ear. “That’s better.”
Joey had to agree, it was much better, and it got better yet when Robbie began stroking his skin, hands sliding over his chest, fingers circling his nipples. Joey enjoyed the touch, pressing lightly back against Robbie’s smooth skin.
Twilight kept walking, and Joey did his best to pay attention as Robbie’s hands kept up their magic. He felt Robbie’s lips against his shoulder and found himself stretching into the touch. Robbie’s hand slid down his chest and stomach, but instead of stopping, they kept going. Nimble fingers popped the buttons on his jeans and a hand slid down inside, gripping him and stroking along his now rigid length. “Robbie.”
