something up there?”
    “Maybe. I’m not sure.”
Understanding dawned in Andre’s eyes. “Oh, I see. If it’s that , she’d be the best one to double check you.”
“Yeah.” Sam wheeled around to cross the foyer. “See y’all later.”
“Good luck,” David called.
Waving over his shoulder, Sam headed down the hallway to the back of the house.
He found Dean and Cecile huddled together in front of the entertainment center. “Hi, guys.”
Dean lifted his head and gave Sam his usual dazzling smile. “Hey, Sam.”
“The EMF’s still a bit on the high side,” Cecile said, studying the display in her hand. “But it’s much better. Down to seven now.” “I’d say that’s better.” Sam moved closer. “Could y’all come do the upstairs before you finish up down here?”
The two looked at each other. Dean shrugged. “Sure. How come?”
“I felt something strange a few minutes ago, inAdrian’s room, and it felt…pretty familiar, if you know what I mean.” He glanced at Cecile. “I need you to check it for me, Cecile. You’re the only psychic here with enough control to examine the energy in Adrian’s room without actually going in there.”
“You don’t want to scare Adrian,” Cecile guessed.
“Right. He’s a really smart kid, though. If you just come upstairs and stand outside his room, he’ll know something’s up.” 104

“But if we go up there together with our equipment and start doing our thing, it’ll just be part of the investigation and he won’t suspect anything.” Dean nodded. “Makes sense to me.”
Cecile’s brows drew together. “So, you suspect there might be a danger of portals here?”
“I hate to say it, but yes, I do.” Sam rubbed the back of his neck. “I could be wrong, though. Which is why I’d like your opinion.” “All right.” Cecile switched off the EMF detector. “Should we go up now?”
“Yeah. I just need to grab a couple of cameras and the cables from the dining room first.”
Dean and Cecile followed Sam into the dining room. David raised his eyebrows as Sam fished the necessary cords and a roll of duct tape out of the bag on the floor.

    “Weren’t you just here?”

“Yes, but I forgot to get the stuff I needed when I was in here before.” Slinging the cords around his neck and slipping the tape roll over one wrist, Sam straightened up and grabbed two of the stationary cameras from the table. “I’ll come back for the laptop in a minute.”
“I’ll bring it up,” Dean offered. “Did Bo decide to set it up upstairs instead of the family room?”
“Yeah. Adrian wanted him to stay in his room with him, so Bo decided we could put the laptop in the hallway and take turns watching it.” “Oh. Cool.” Lifting the laptop bag from the floor, Dean hung the strap over one shoulder. “You got all the cords you need?” “Yeah. Let’s go.”
Sam trudged up the stairs with Cecile and Dean trailing behind him. On the upstairs landing, Dean set the laptop bag against the wall. “Y’all holler if you need help setting up, okay?”
Sam nodded. “Sure thing. Thanks, guys.”

“No problem.” Cecile took his hand and gave it a quick squeeze before following Dean into Sean’s room.
Plastering a bland smile onto his face, Sam walked into Adrian’s room. He set the cameras, cords and duct tape on the desk. “Okay, I brought the cameras, power cords and cables to connect to the laptop. The laptop’s out in the hall. Oh, and Cecile and Dean came up with me. They’re in Sean’s room.”
Bo nodded. “Great, Sam, thank you. Let’s get these cameras set up. Then I think we should try a test.”
“What kind of test?” Adrian asked from his perch in the middle of his bed.
Bo went to sit beside his son. “I think we should try to see what happens when you’re alone in your room, and you get upset and frustrated about things. That’s when you see the shadows and hear the noises, isn’t it?” Adrian didn’t answer that question, but the near panic in his eyes was answer enough. “You said I wouldn’t be alone. You said you’d stay with me.”
“I will. Sam and I will be right here the whole time.” Bo glanced over at Sam. “We won’t leave you by yourself. But the whole point of tonight’s investigation is to see if we can find out what exactly is going on in here at night, and in order to do that we need to recreate the conditions
