could feel it out from one of the other rooms without having to come into this one. I still don’t think we should alarm Adrian if we don’t have to.”
“Okay. When we get ready to set up cameras, I’ll go downstairs and talk to Cecile.” Glancing toward the door, Sam leaned closer to Bo. “What about you? Have you felt anything like…like you did at Fort Medina?”
It still made Sam’s stomach churn to think about those frightening days back in May—the changes in Bo when those things invaded his mind, the way they’d manipulated him into serving as a temporary portal focus. Bo had almost died for the second time in only a few months, and Sam didn’t think he’d ever truly get over it.
The worst part was, the chemical which had made it possible for the creatures to track Bo was still in his system. As far as they knew, only the anticonvulsant Bo took every night kept it from reactivating. Sam still woke in the night sometimes, terrified that the otherdimensional beings would find Bo again, and take him.
“I didn’t feel anything. Not even a tiny twinge.” Bo touched Sam’s cheek. “I’m okay, Sam. I promise.”
Sam turned his head to kiss Bo’s palm. He wanted to pull Bo into his arms and just hold him, but was stopped by Adrian entering the room. He wandered over and plopped onto his bed. “What’re y’all talking about?”
Bo gave him an obviously forced smile. “Nothing, son. Just work stuff. What did you find on your EMF sweep?”
“It was four, mostly. Sometimes it was a little lower, and right by my closet it was four point seven, but mostly it was right at four.” Adrian frowned at his father. “Are you okay, Dad? You look a little sick.”
“I’m fine.” Patting Adrian’s shoulder, Bo stood and set his camera on the desk. “So, Adrian. Where do you think we should put the cameras to record tonight?” Adrian’s eyes saucered. “I get to pick?”

“Well, Sam and I will help position the cameras to get the best angle, but yes, I’d like you to tell us what parts of the room we need to record. You’re the most familiar with this room, and you’re the only one who knows exactly what all you’ve seen and where, so who better to decide the best place to put them?” Adrian’s expression barely changed, but the spark in his eyes spoke volumes.
Jumping up, he crossed the room to stand in the doorway. “I think you ought to record my bed,” he said after a moment’s thought. “It’ll be kind of weird to have a camera on me while I’m sleeping, but I always hear stuff around my bed, really close to me, and sometimes the shadows are right there by the bed too.” Bo nodded. “Okay. Anyplace else?”
“The closet.” Adrian shuffled closer to his father. “That’s where I saw the…the thing.”
“You mean the thing you said looked solid rather than shadowy?” Sam asked, making sure to keep the shiver of fear inside him out of his voice. Adrian nodded. “Yeah.”
“All right. We’ll record the closet too.” Bo looked over at Sam. “Would you mind fetching the equipment we’ll need? We can set up, then get settled for the night.”
“Sure.” Sam rose and headed for the door. “You want me to, um, ask Cecile and Dean to investigate the other upstairs rooms while I’m down there?”
“That would be good, thanks.”
Sam looked back. His gaze locked with Bo’s. For a moment they stood there staring into each other’s eyes, a wealth of questions and apprehension passing unspoken between them. Then Bo blinked and turned away. Sam hurried to the stairs before he could give in to the urge to kiss away the distress in Bo’s eyes.
In the dining room, he found David and Andre pacing the periphery of the room with a camera and EMF detector. They both looked up when he entered.
“Hey, Sam,” David greeted. “What’s up?”
“I’m looking for Cecile.” Sam glanced behind him, to where Dean’s laughter floated from the family room. “Is she back there with Dean?” www.samhainpublishing.com 103

Andre nodded. “They’re checking out the area that had such a high EMF before.
Should be done in a minute.”
David looked up from the video camera he held. “Anything we can do, or you need Cecile in particular?”
“I kind of need Cecile. She has the most precise control over her psychic abilities.” Lowering his EMF detector, Andre gave Sam a curious look. “Did you find
