here’s a camera.” Cecile held out one of the new video cameras to Bo. “You have a full charge on this as well.”
“Thank you.” Bo turned to Andre, who was fiddling with one of the other cameras.
“Andre and Cecile, could I speak with the two of you in private for a minute?” Andre’s eyebrows went up. He exchanged a questioning glance with Cecile, who shook her head. “Sure,” Andre answered. He motioned Bo toward the kitchen. “What’s up?”
The three of them moved out of hearing range, but Sam had a feeling he knew what Bo wanted. Andre and Cecile were both powerful psychics. Bo needed them to keep their psychic senses wide open, but he didn’t want to tell them that—or why he wanted it—in www.samhainpublishing.com 99

front of Adrian. It would only frighten the boy to know how worried his father was about his safety.
“What’re they talking about?”
Jarred from his thoughts, Sam looked down into Adrian’s upturned face. “I don’t know,” he said, truthfully enough. “Probably just giving them instructions about something or other. He does that all the time.” Adrian looked skeptical. “So he’s not, like, telling them to be nice to the kid or anything?”
The cynicism in the boy’s voice surprised Sam. “No, I don’t think he’s saying anything like that at all.” He wanted to ask whyAdrian would think that, but decided against it. In the past few days, Adrian had stopped treating him like the enemy. Sam liked that change, and didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize it.
Adrian pursed his lips, but didn’t answer.
Bo, Andre and Cecile returned a moment later. Cecile and Andre went to the dining table, while Bo walked over to Sam and Adrian. “Okay, are y’all ready to get started?” Sam turned a questioning look to Adrian, who nodded eagerly. “Ready, Dad.” Smiling, Bo gave Adrian’s shoulder a squeeze. “Then let’s head upstairs.” Adrian led the way up the steps. Bo and Sam trailed behind him, carrying the camera and EMF detector.
Halfway up, Bo curled his hand around Sam’s. “Tell me everything’s going to be okay.”
“Everything’s going to be okay.”
“Thanks.”
Sam squeezed Bo’s fingers, and Bo shot him a halfhearted smile. With any luck, Sam’s little white lie would turn out to be the truth after all.

Within fifteen minutes, Adrian had learned how to read the EMF detector and gotten the hang of using it. While Bo took baseline video, Adrian scanned the room in the slow, methodical manner Bo had taught him, his face screwed up in concentration.
Sam watched the two of them with half an eye while he sent psychic feelers through the room. It was nice to see father and son working together, especially after the tension between them during the past few months. He hoped it would continue.
As he psychically probed the bedroom, his mind caught on something and stumbled.
Frowning, he felt back along his mental path. And there it was. A fracture in the substance of reality. Thin as a hair, nearly unrecognizable amongst the pulsing energy of a house full of people. In fact, Sam figured he’d have missed it altogether if it hadn’t felt so familiar.
He rubbed a hand over his eyes. Shit.
“Sam?”
Shaking himself, Sam met Bo’s gaze. “Yeah?”
“We’ve done an initial sweep.” Bo sat in the chair at Adrian’s desk, the camera in his lap. “What did you feel?”
Yeah, Sam, what did you feel? He wasn’t sure how to answer that question, especially with Adrian right there. They’d agreed not to mention the portals, or the creatures which populated the unknown dimension beyond them. But what Sam had just felt meant they might have to re-think things. “I felt…” Sam glanced at Adrian, who’d just set the EMF detector on his bedside table and run across the hall to the bathroom. “I felt something.”
Bo’s smile faded. “Something? Like what?”
Sam leaned forward, dropping his voice to a near whisper. “There’s an anomaly in the energy here. It might be nothing,” he added when Bo went alarmingly pale. “But it did feel kind of familiar. From other places , if you know what I mean.”
“Yeah. I know. Christ.” Bo blew out a long breath. “Did you feel it last time we were here?”
“No.”

Sam thought about it. “If we can get Cecile to come upstairs, she
