Stone had found when cleaning out the house, to buy the house together. "I'll bet you are." Derrick smiled.
"It's even got a small room Preston can use as an office." Preston had begun offering his financial planning expertise to the local farmers, and word had spread. "He has two appointments this afternoon." There were times he thought he was going to burst with pride.
"I've heard he's getting clients from around the county."
"The college contacted him to see if he'd be interested in teaching some classes."
"Sounds like things are working out."
"They are, for the most part." Preston's mother was great and called regularly, but his father barely spoke to him. And the one time he and Stone had met, he'd ignored Stone completely, which only made Preston angry. But Stone could care less. He had everything he could want: a home, someone who loved him, and an adopted, extended family. He smiled to himself. Hell, he even had someone to mother him.
Preston slowed his horse, allowing Stone to catch up. "You look about ready to burst."
Preston's own eyes shone with delight.
"So do you." They'd talked about little but plans for their new house for the last month.
"I'm just excited about our place."
"I know, a home of our very own." Stone motioned for Preston to stop, and he did the same.
Leaning over, he captured his lover's lips.
"Have you given any thought to what we talked about yesterday?" Stone nodded and chewed on his bottom lip. "You don't have to, but I know you'll do well."
"Do you really think I'm cut out for college?"
Preston slipped a hand into Stone's. "You're cut out to do whatever you want. You could start with a few classes in the fall." Stone wasn't sure what to say. "I know you're nervous about it." Preston smiled. "I'll tell you a secret--I was scared to death as a freshman."
"You? Mr. Arrogant?" Stone teased, knowing Preston's arrogance had been nothing more than a cover for his fears.
"Yes, me." Preston chuckled.
"Okay."
The group turned back toward the barn, racing across the field. Stone and Preston held hands as their horses lazily walked them home. "You'll do it?"
"Yeah." The last of his fears fell away. Together, they could do anything. Preston let go of his hand. "Go on, I know you want to. I'll be in shortly." Stone smiled and spurred Buster on, letting him run, the two of them flying across the field together. Buster needed to feel free too. About the Author
