Part of Sam wished they could go back to the more neutral ground of the office, but he knew there was no point. Sooner or later, Bo was going to have some very ugly things to say to Sam. Those things might as well be said at home, in private.
God, I really fucked up. Is there any way he’s going to forgive me?
The possibility that he wouldn’t made Sam’s stomach churn. He gritted his teeth against the bile rising in his throat.
The short trip passed in a silence so tense it made Sam’s skin itch. By the time they entered their apartment, Sam felt ready to scream. He wished Bo would just say whatever he had to say and get it out there. Waiting for the cutting words Sam knew were coming was unbearable. Bo shuffled over to the sofa and plopped into one corner. He curled forward, burying his face in his hands. “Fuck.”
Sam’s heart twisted. He walked over to the couch and sat beside Bo. Unsure of his welcome, he brushed hesitant fingers against Bo’s arm. “I’m sorry, Bo.” Bo let out a brittle laugh, muffled by his hands. “Yeah. You’re sorry now, when the damage is done.” He lifted his head, aiming an icy glare at Sam. “You may have just cost me my kids, Sam. Why can’t you just stay out of things that are none of your business?” Believing Bo would blame him and knowing it were two very different things.
Hearing it out loud felt like being sliced open. Sam folded his arms over his belly as if staunching a physical wound.
“I’m sorry,” Sam repeated, knowing it wasn’t good enough but not knowing what else he could say. “I’d go back and change things if I could.”
“Yeah, well, you can’t.” Bo pushed to his feet and started pacing, one hand twisting the tail of his braid. “Fuck, Sam. Fuck . Why couldn’t you just keep your fucking mouth shut for once?”

Anger stirred in Sam’s chest in spite of himself. “Look, I know I screwed up. As you pointed out already, I can’t change what happened. I’ll just have to live with my mistake.”
“You? You’re going to have to live with it?” Bo stopped and stabbed a finger at Sam’s chest. “ I’m going to have to live with it, Sam. My kids are going to have to live with it. So fuck you.”
Rising to his feet, Sam walked across the room and away from the temptation to hit Bo. “I doubt things would’ve gone any differently in the end, anyway. She wasn’t going to listen to you. That much was obvious from the start.” Bo stalked over to Sam, radiating pure fury like a furnace. “She would’ve come around eventually. I know her, I know how she is. She would’ve listened to me in the end.”
“That’s wishful thinking, Bo.”
“No it isn’t. She would have changed her mind. You fucked it up.” And you’re fooling yourself. Sam took a deep breath, trying to tamp down the anger he had no right to feel. It was like trying to stop the tide with a wall of twigs. “You weren’t helping your own case, losing your cool like that.” “Losing my cool? My sons are in danger, and I can’t save them from it, and you expect me to keep my cool?” Bo laughed, the sound edged with hysteria. “Shit. Oh, shit.” Stepping closer, Sam reached for Bo. He stumbled away from Sam’s touch. “Bo, come on,” Sam pleaded. “Just—”
“Shut up. ” Bo’s anguished gaze darted around the room. Snatching an empty glass off the windowsill, he threw it against the opposite wall. It shattered, littering the floor with bits of glass.
“Fuck!” Bo screamed. “Fuck, fuck, fuck !” Frightened and aching in sympathy for Bo, Sam pulled him close and wrapped both arms securely around him. He held on when Bo struggled, refusing to let go even when Bo’s fists started pummeling his back.

Sam yelped when Bo’s teeth dug into his neck hard enough to draw blood. Grabbing Bo’s braid, Sam yanked his head back. “Stop it, Bo. You’re hurting me.”
“Good. I want you to hurt.” Bo got his arms between himself and Sam and pushed, breaking Sam’s hold on him. Lifting a shaking hand, he wiped Sam’s blood from his lips.
He stared at the red stain on his fingers, then lifted his gaze to meet Sam’s.
Sam stared back, his heart racing. Somewhere between one look and the next, the fire in Bo’s eyes had gone from angry to lustful, and Sam’s body reacted accordingly. He licked his dry lips, torn
