    Mon éditeur et moi avons eu quelques disputes – dont une, mémorable, à propos de sushis. Mais Gerald Howard a cru en ce livre, m’a poussé, appuyé, épaulé tout au long de sa rédaction. Il était très attaché au sujet, cet acteur dont il admire lui aussi le travail. Je suis reconnaissant envers lui et WW Norton d’avoir amélioré cet ouvrage, à chacune de ses étapes, de leur soutien. En Angleterre, Paul Sidey et Hutchinson se sont montrés tout aussi patients et encourageants.
    Je n’arrive plus à me souvenir de ce qu’était la vie avant Gloria Loomis, mon agent. Ce livre n’aurait pas pu exister sans elle. Non seulement parce que c’est elle qui a arrangé l’affaire, mais aussi parce que ses conseils pleins de bon sens m’ont aidé à tenir tout au long de ces trois longues années parfois difficiles de recherches et d’écriture.
     
    Et surtout : Merci à Tina, Clancy, Bowie et Sky.
