Psy & Changelings 01 - Slave to Sensation
to see Sascha. Here she is.â
Sascha pushed at his back until he shifted enough that she could meet the wolfâs gaze. It was as far as he was going to go.
âI know you donât trust me,â she said. âI even know that you hate the Psy on a level thatâs so deep, it has no end.â
Hawkeâs mouth tightened, his eyes going glacial.
âBut you donât have to trust me in thisâyou have to trust Lucas.â
Hawke snorted. âHeâs your mate. Heâs hardly likely to be unbiased.â
Lucas waited for Sascha to dispute their mating, unable to do anything to warn her.
Her hand slipped around to lie against his stomach. The panther wanted to purr. âDo you really think heâd mate to someone whoâd endanger his pack?â
âYeah, wolf.â Relief at her acceptance ran through Lucas like fire. âJust how much do you trust me?â
âHow do you know she hasnât fucked with your mind?â It was a harsh question.
âBecause you know as well as I do that the Psy canât hold on to our minds for longer than a few minutes.â Lucas tracked Hawkeâs every movement, leaving Indigo and Riley to the sentinels. He had a feeling Riley was the more dangerous of the pairâlike Dorian, heâd lost a sister to this killer. âShe wouldâve had to manipulate not only my mind but those of the sentinels as well.â
âPsy never work alone.â Hawke watched them both without blinking.
Saschaâs hand clenched on Lucasâs abdomen. âPsy also donât feel emotion.â Stretching, she kissed the hard angle of Lucasâs jaw from behind his shoulder. âYet I feel so much, itâs threatening to destroy me.â
There was no arguing with her statement. She was sensually, beautifully female, her bodyâs hunger for Lucas a siren song. The unmated males could no more ignore that than they could stop breathing.
Every instinct in him quivered, wanting to take her, right here, right now, and show everyone that she belonged to him. Fighting the animalistic urge merely served to heighten the craving, until the pantherâs fur rasped along the inside of his skin.
âThen those eyes of yours mean nothing.â Hawke crossed his arms across his chest. âYouâre weaker than the ones weâre fighting.â
âYouâre calling emotion a weakness?â Tamsyn was trying to get past Dorian without success. Nate stared at her from across the room, obviously willing her to be silent, but the healer had never been good at following orders. âEmotion is what makes us strong!â
âSheâs not one of us,â Hawke said. âHer strength comes from feeling nothing. If she feels, it means sheâs damaged goods. We canât trust Brennaâs life to a defective Psy who could crumble at any minute.â
Lucas felt the pantherâs claws cut through his skin. âBe very careful what you say about my mate, Hawke. Iâd hate to have to kill you.â The warning lingered on the air.
Both of Saschaâs arms wrapped around his middle. âLucas, heâs right. If I were weak, Iâd be of no use.â
âYouâre not weak.â He held her hands flat against him, luxuriating in the public gesture of belonging. This Psy was his and he wasnât going to let her escape. Ever.
âNo,â she said, âIâm not. Iâm a cardinal E-Psy.â
Hawkeâs gaze reflected a bright flash of shock so deep, it couldnât be hidden.
âWhat do you know, wolf?â Lucas wondered what Sascha had learned that had enabled her to make that statement so confidently, but he wasnât going to ask her to explain in front of the SnowDancers.
âI want to see her face,â the wolf demanded.
Lucas felt his muscles lock. Saschaâs hand smoothed over his body as she drew back. âLet me, Lucas. This is my time to fight.â
The anguish in her tone got through to him, cutting past the possessive beast to the man within. He let her move until she stood slightly in front of him, where he could quickly haul her behind his body. âYou or your lieutenants even blink wrong and Iâll slash you wide open.â It wasnât a threat, just simple fact.
Hawke nodded. âFair enough.â Nobody played games with mates.
âWhat do you want to see?â Sascha tipped her head slightly to the side, her
