patch.
    ‘ “Will you say twenty
years hence, that’s the grave of Cathy Earnshaw?” she asked.
‘ “If you want me to, I’ll
say that’s the grave of Cathy Earnshaw.”
    ‘She hissed and spat at
him.
‘ “Are you possessed by the
devil?” he asked.
    ‘ “No,” she said. “The
Bradford and Bingley.” She lay back, her heart beating wildly — bonk bonk
bonkity bonk. “Come, Heathcliff, and kneel down again,” she said.
‘As he did there came a
loud cracking from the arthritis in his knees. Heathcliff stood up and went to
the back of her chair and leaned over her. She could see right up his nose.
“Oh, no,” she whispered as he walked to the fireplace, where he stood, silent
with his back to the fire.
‘Due to the heat in his
trousers they caught fire. In a fury of sparks and swearing he beat out the flames,
encouraged by Cathy’s shouting. “Go, man, go!” She gave a low moan. “I’m tired
of being enclosed in here. I want to escape barefoot on to the moor and let the
wind and rain blow through my hair,” she said.
    ‘ “But, Miss Cathy,” I
said, “the last time you did that, you got pneumonia, remember?”
    ‘ “Yes, it was wonderful!”
she said. She gave me her hand to hold, it was getting too heavy for her.
“Nelly,” she said. “You are more fortunate than I, you in full health and
strength.”
    ‘ “Nay, m’am, I have
varicose veins,” I said.
    ‘ “Oh,” said Cathy softly,
“I wish I were well enough to have those.” Suddenly she had an attack of
chicken, she started clucking. Heathcliff, his trousers still smouldering, went
across to soothe her. In her eagerness she arose, supporting herself on her
zimmer. He turned to her looking absolutely desperate, his eyes aflame with
passion. Her breasts heaved convulsively. He gave them a quick squeeze; an
instance they held asunder. Suddenly Cathy made a spring. He caught her and
they were locked together long enough for another couple of quickies. That
done, he dropped her to the floor with a thud! He flung himself into the
nearest seat. When I went to pick Cathy up, he gnashed at me, gnash! gnash! and
foamed at me like a mad dog. “Here, boy,” I said and threw him a bone. He
leaned over her. She put her hand up to clasp his neck and bring her cheek to
his. He covered her with frantic caresses and groping, stopping only to gnaw
the bone.
    ‘ “Yes,” he said, “you
loved me. What right have you to leave me, eh? eh? eh? eh? Why did you eh? eh?
eh? eh? Why did you fall for that creep Edgar Linton eh? eh? eh? eh? eh? eh?
eh? eh?”
    ‘ “Let me alone,” sobbed
Cathy. “If I’ve done wrong, I’m dying for it, isn’t that enough?”
‘ “It’s hard to look in
those eyes to forgive and feel those wasted boobs,” said Heathcliff, weeping
floods of tormented tears. It was in moments like this he longed for Prawn
Madras.
    ‘They were silent, their
faces against each other, crying. At least I suppose the weeping was on both
sides, that is their tears ran down each other’s back. I could hear church
bells ringing. “Service is over,” I said.
    ‘ “Yes,” said Heathcliff,
“I’ve given her a good service.”
‘ “My master will be home
soon,” I said.
    ‘Heathcliff groaned a
curse, “Awwwgfuck!” he said.
    ‘I could see Mr Linton
staggering in through the gate, pissed from the Black Bull.
‘ “Do be quick,” I said to
Heathcliff.
‘ “I must go, Cathy,” he
said, pulling up his trousers. “I won’t stay five yards from your window,” he
said.
‘ “How many will you stay
then?” asked Cathy, pulling him back by his braces.
    ‘He strained away till the
braces stretched across the room, then Cathy released them and they hit
Heathcliff a sickening thwack!
    ‘ “Oh, dear,” cursed an
enraged Heathcliff. Taking up a starting position of a runner, he dashed across
to embrace Cathy; she grabbed his hair, pulling out two more tufts; he was now
nearly bald. She lay back with the wind and rain in her hair. “Don’t go, don’t
go.” There was a mad resolution on her face and down one side of her body.
“No,” she shrieked, “I shall die, I shall die tiddly, I tie tiddly I tie.”
‘ “She does not know what
she says,” I said.
    ‘ “Neither do I, ” said
Heathcliff.
    ‘ “This is the most
diabolical deed you ever did,” I said.
‘ “No,” he said, “I once
set fire to a cat.”
    ‘As Mr Edgar approached I
said, “We are done for, master, mistress,
