some chocolate from the people in the neighborhood.”
“Your brother likes Sweet Tarts,” Bo said, walking over to sit beside Sam. “Why don’t you take those to him?”
“’Kay.” Sean looked around. “Where is he?”
“In your room.” Sam waved a hand toward the hall. “He’s getting his costume on.”
“Cool, thanks.”
Sam chuckled as Sean spun around and raced toward the bedroom. “God, he’s an energetic little thing, isn’t he?”
“Oh, yes.” Taking Sam’s hand, Bo wove their fingers together. “So. How’d it go with Adrian?”
“Really well. I taught him those breathing exercises I’ve been doing lately, then I worked with him on clearing his mind and focusing his thoughts.” Sam rubbed his thumb along the back of Bo’s hand. “He did great. Much better than I expected. I thought I’d have a hard time getting him to listen to me and work with me, but he was a fantastic student.”

Relief washed over Bo’s face. “God, I’m glad to hear that. I was worried his usual attitude toward you would get in the way. It’s good to know he’s able to put all that aside.”
“He’s a very mature kid. Smart too.” Sam leaned closer and lowered his voice.
“There’s one thing, though. I found out that Adrian’s been seeing and hearing things in his room at night.”
Bo tensed. “What sorts of things?”
“He just said he’d heard noises, not what kind, but he said he’d seen shadows, and sometimes he thought he’d seen something more solid.” Closing his eyes, Bo sagged against Sam’s side. “Christ, Sam. What if—?”
“I know.” Sam let go of Bo’s hand and slipped his arm around Bo’s shoulders instead. “I think we should go back to the house and take another look around, with full psychic sweep, and with Adrian there.”
“I think you’re right. And if we’re going to do that, I think we should do overnight video and audio inAdrian’s room. Maybe have you stay in there with him, to see what happens psychically speaking.” Bo opened his eyes and turned a solemn, frightened expression to Sam. “How in the hell are we going to convince Janine to let us do that?”
“I’ve been thinking about that, while Adrian and I were working, and I have an idea.”
“What is it?”
“We’ll talk to Lee, find a time when Janine won’t be home, and do it then. You know she does overnight assignments fairly regularly, so it shouldn’t be too hard.” Bo stared at him. “Oh my God, that is so devious.”
“Yeah, I know.” Sam glanced toward the hallway, where he could hear the boys talking. “So, what do you think?”
“We’ll have to be very, very careful to keep Janine from finding out.”
“Definitely.”
“As a matter of fact, we probably shouldn’t tell Sean either. He’ll be excited about it, and when he’s excited about something he tells everyone in hearing range.” www.samhainpublishing.com 93

“Hm, good point.” Sam frowned. “Is it too risky?”
“It’s definitely risky.” Bo sucked his bottom lip between his teeth and let it go with a pop. “But I think we should do it. We need more information about what’s happening in that house, and the only way to get it is to go there.” Sam gazed at the half-open door to Sean and Adrian’s bedroom. “I guess we’ll have to talk to Adrian.”
“Yes.” Bo let out a sigh. “I wish I knew what to tell him. He’s already frightened, having him terrified out of his mind by the thought of calling up those…those things , would be counterproductive at best. But he’ll have to know at least something of what we’re doing if he’s going to be involved.”
“Mm.” Sam was silent for a moment, thinking. “What if we tell him we want to investigate the house one more time to see what exactly happens at night when he’s seeing things, so we’ll know better how to help him? It’s true, after all.” Before Bo could answer, Sean and Adrian exited the bedroom, cutting off any further planning. Adrian wore a long black cloak and plastic vampire teeth, and he’d slicked his hair back with gel.
“I’ll talk to Adrian when we get back, and I’ll call Lee tomorrow,” Bo murmured before pulling away from Sam’s side and rising to his feet. “All right, boys, are we ready?”
“Yeah, let’s go!” Sean dashed over to pick up his helmet and stood bouncing on his toes in front of the door. “Come on, before all the good
